OKEHAMPTON ladies ?A tennis team have continued their season with mixed fortunes in the Exeter and District Tennis League. At home against Exeter Golf and Country Club they took full advantage of their home surface and ran away with an 8-1 victory. Julia Moysey and Angela Herrod-Taylor managed to win both matches in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 and 7-6, 7-5. Beth Carter and Jackie Jarvis dropped their first set against the first couple 6-7 but went on to win the match 6-2, 13-11 and then took the next match 6-4,7-5. Okehampton played against rivals Chagford but could not repeat their form. Both Okehampton pairs won a match but both lost to Chagford?s first couple giving a final result of Okehampton 4, Chagford 6. Okehampton then travelled to Budleigh Salterton to play on their Astroturf courts. Julia and Angela settled an exciting encounter against Budleigh?s second pair with Okehampton winning 7-6, 6-4. Against their first couple the Okehampton pair produced some good tennis but lost in the championship tie break. Beth and Jackie fought hard in both matches but Budleigh were in fine form and won both matches in straight sets. Okehampton now have 25 points from six games and are in second place in division 2. Next match, home to Seaton on Thursday, June 28.
