THE Victorian era will return to Princetown this Saturday with the opening of a new attraction. The Legend of the Hound Project celebrates Sherlock Holmes and his connection with Princetown ? where the author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, wrote part of ?The Hound of the Baskervilles?. There will be a double celebration on Saturday. Sylvia Agnew, who had the idea for the project, said: ?It is coinciding with the issuing of a Hackney Carriage Licence, the first ever issued by West Devon Borough Council. ?It?s just a fun afternoon to celebrate that I?ve got my licence?. The project is situated in Lord?s Tearooms, with a recreation of Holmes?s study room from 221b Baker Street, London. ?In the Victorian sitting room, it?s very hands-on. People can have a go at playing the violin, reading the old letters and putting the costumes on.? The highlight of the attraction is the chance to travel in the horse-drawn carriage, in costume to Dartmoor Prison, the viewing point at Two Bridges or Great Grimpen Mire. As well as the new tourist venture, Sylvia and the team are hoping to branch out into education. ?We want to develop educational events, perhaps a Victorian Christmas, go into schools, make decorations and tell them about a Victorian Christmas and hopefully take the horse and carriage so they can see it?. The open day, which starts at noon, will see people dressed up as Sherlock Holmes, Dr Watson and Henry Baskerville as Princetown travels back in time.
