Tavistock Ladies 1st XI 4 Plym Valley 3 THE match opened with both teams working hard to retain possession. An early goal from Plym Valley meant Tavistock had to raise their game and put pressure on the opposition?s defence. Sarah Barratt was intercepting nearly every ball fed out and this allowed her to link with Laura Armstrong and Julia Firth in order to get the ball into the ?D?. A short corner was awarded to Tavistock and a good strike from Laura Stapleton was shot at goal. Armstrong was on the post and neatly helped the ball into the goal. The opposition did not have much opportunity to put Tavistock under pressure in the second-half as Fiona Dunn and Susannah Boulle hassled well and prevented any immediate attack. Goalkeeper Bex Creasy made some excellent saves which prevented the opposition romping ahead on the score line. Gaspar scored the second goal for Tavistock enabling them to take the lead. Gaspar and Honey had moved the ball up the pitch allowing Gaspar to take a confident strike past the keeper. With Emma White back on the pitch again this week, she was able to make some good tackles and feed the ball up the pitch. The third goal came from the captain, Fiona Dunn. Dunn worked the ball into the ?D?, took a shot which was rebounded right back to her and managed to sneak the ball through the keeper?s pads. A short corner was awarded to Plym Valley who scored from it, bridging the gap again. Tavistock kept their heads and Babs Horton made some good tackles. An excellent run from Barratt allowed her to run circles around the opposition in the ?D? and she scored the fourth goal. Plym Valley came back hard and did put Tavistock under a bit of pressure resulting in them scoring again. With only a few minutes to go, Tavistock played a tactical game and held the finish result at 4-3. A well deserved victory. This week Tavistock are home again at Bickleigh Barracks at 12.30pm against Chudleigh. Player of The Match: Susannah Boulle.
