TAVISTOCK hockey juniors played in a tournament held at Budehaven Leisure Centre, Bude on Saturday. The club entered two teams, one in the U13 age group and one in the U11 age group. The U11s played really well and despite only having six players instead of 7 they excelled themselves. Fern Toynton was dynamite all over the pitch, and it appeared as if no defensive player could stop her when she had the ball. Christian Brown worked hard and despite being one of the youngest players on the pitch he handled himself with great skill. The U11s were helped out in goal by Christian Brown who never had much to do as the defence was so strong. The U11s won 3 of their 4 games and so it went to a Penalty Flick situation. Unfortunately Tavistock narrowly missed out on securing first place but equally had done very well to achieve second place overall in the tournament. THE U13s, captained by Mathew Edwards, also had tremendous success. Alex Shephard played well up front and scored numerous goals for the team. Goalkeeper Kate Robbins made some tremendous saves. Christian Brown and Jack Woodhouse played well and with solid in defence it appeared difficult for the opposition to break through. Christian displayed a high fitness level alongside his skill level. Ellie Evans was an absolute star. She tackled well and was able to feed good balls into the ?D? allowing the boys to score. As a result of how well this team played, winning all of their matches, the U13s won the tournament and received certificates and medals like the U11s.
