Elburton Villa 0

Tavistock AFC 3

THE Lambs put on a top quality display and deservedly beat the high riding Eburton Villa side at Haye Road.

The first half was very even, with some fine play in midfield by both sides, although it must be said that the home keeper was much busier than Andy Meeds in the Tavistock goal.

There were very few really clear cut opportunities created, although the visitors had a couple of half chances to open the scoring. The Lambs strike partnership of Glyn Hobbs and Adam Carter were a constant menace and threat to the Villa defence.

Early in the second half Elburton caused the Lambs a real scare when striker Sam Hughes ran broke down the right and his superb cross just eluded his fellow strikers.

The Lambs took a deserved lead in the 56th minute when a ball was played out to the left wing to new signing Richard Maddison, he cut inside his marker and fired a terrific shot past Villa goalkeeper Simon May.

The Lambs added a second in the 71st minute when Adam Carter rose high above the defence to head home a Maddison corner.

Villa never really caused the visitors defence many problems, the only occasion for concern was when former Tavistock striker Lee Harvey lost his marker and fired over the cross bar when well placed. The Lambs remained in complete control for the remainder of the game and in stoppage time Shane Krac added a third with a thunderous drive from the edge of the penalty area.

This was another top quality performance by the Lambs, they must now ensure that these standards are maintained throughout the league campaign in order to be challenging for honours at the end of the season. It was pleasing that the defensive problems seen to be cured with a second clean sheet in a row. Manager Ian Southcott said he was delighted and full of praise for the players. 'It was a top quality, first class, all round team performance.' he said.
