IT took former Kelly College student Sam Donnison four days to hitch-hike his way to Morocco in aid of disadvantaged people in Africa. Sam, 19, travelled the 1,600 miles from England to Morocco by any free transport he could find. The Link Community Development charity has been running ?The Morocco Hitch? since 1990, to help people in Africa gain employment by sharing and developing appropriate skills through education and training. Sam and his partner Adele left London and hitchhiked their way to Portsmouth, where they got on a ferry to Le Havre in France. Along the way they got stuck in the Pyrenees, slept rough outside Madrid Central Station, were involved in a car crash along a Spanish highway, and hitched a lift with a superfast Spanish driver who drove at 120mph. From there they hitched a lift to Cadiz in Spain, then to Alderciras, onto their last mode of transport, a ferry to Morocco. Sam, currently at Leeds University studying geography, said: ?I had a fantastic time. The whole experience was great. People were so friendly, and some even bought us food and drink.? He raised approximately £600 for the charity ? more than half of what they ask. Adele raised approximately £800.
