THE history of how a quiet stretch of moorland was turned into a second world war RAF fighter station will be retold at the RAF Harrowbeer Archive Weekend next month.
Knightstone Tearooms in Yelverton will be hosting the event over the Bank Holiday Weekend from August 23 to 25.
Visitors and locals will be made aware of how the village was split in half, buildings demolished and roads positioned in the 1940s.
On display will be a three-dimensional model of the airfield as it would have been in 1943. There will also be a copy of the station's operational record book or diary from the time it opened to the time it closed.
On site is a small museum containing artefacts and documents of the period, and at around 2pm there will be a re-enactment of how to deal with an incendiary bomb.
Guided walks and exhibitions by the South West Heritage Aviation Group and the Harrowbeer Interest Group will also be available.
The event is free and there is ample parking on site. Each day will run from 11am to 4.30pm. For further information contact Michael Hayes on 01822 853679.
