A NEW book celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Ten Tors expedition was launched at the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton on Saturday.

Simon Dell, a retired West Devon police officer, compiled 'Ten Tors — The Dartmoor Challenge', a well researched volume covering the history of this unique event, all the way from its beginnings in 1960 to the present day, with tales and photographs from some of the first participants.

It recalls stories about the challenges of snow storms, the foot and mouth outbreaks and torrential rain, to the 50th anniversary event this year.

Copies are on sale at the museum, price £2.95. The profit from the sale is going to Dartmoor Search and Rescue dogs.
