AN upgraded training centre in Hatherleigh which provides specialist skills training for industrial businesses will be launched today (Thursday) by South West Water.
Hatherleigh Training Centre has undergone a major refit over the last six months to equip the venue with state of the art craft and industrial training facilities.
Bob Baty, South West Water's chief executive, has tried and tested the specialist equipment at the company's new Hatherleigh Training Centre and will today officially open the upgraded venue.
On a recent visit to the centre, Mr Baty donned his hard hat and breathing apparatus and sprung into action to experience the confined space pipe work training facility for himself.
'We are pleased to be able to offer this service to local engineering and construction firms and neighbouring water companies needing essential job-specific training,' said Mr Baty.
'The comprehensive equipment and facilities we have on site ensures that the training environment is realistic to learn practical skills and be confident on the job.'
The facilities include the only chlorine training rig of its kind in the UK, using a nitrogen and chlorine gas mix along with a confined space training facility comprising a shaft winch, various pipe work and breathing apparatus.
Street works training is also available.
These comprehensive facilities ensure specialist training is as realistic and effective as possible.
The centre also has three lecture rooms, full catering facilities and offers a wide range of health and safety and first aid courses.
The facility is used regularly by many commercial businesses, local authorities and has on occasion provided a useful training ground for the emergency services to brush up on their skills.
