MEMBERS of the High Moorland WI are inviting people down to the green in Princetown this weekend for their 'Save the High Street' awareness day.

The WI nationally has taken on a campaign to save high street shops and town centres. The campaign is about the value of high streets and town centres as hubs of social and community life.

The WI hopes the campaign will call on decision makers to work collectively, at all levels, to help bring an end to the decline of high streets and to ensure that high streets flourish and provide a focal point for local communities.

The High Moorland WI is hoping to have local businesses on board to promote their services at the awareness day on Saturday, between noon and 2pm, while the group will have banners and information available about the campaign.

Secretary of the High Moorland WI Sue Hammett said: 'With so many shops going into decline it is important that we as a national body, raise the awareness to the general public and more importantly, government, that this situation can only get worse unless something is done about it.'
