TAVYSIDE Patients' Association has announced the winner of its Young Photographer of the Year 2013 as Lauren Dillon, with her picture of her young cousin jumping on a trampoline.
The three judges, Times photographer James Bird, Keith Urro and Stuart Black, chairman of Tavistock Camera Club, said it was a hard task to choose the winners for the four categories in each age group, as the standard this year was so high.
Giving some tips about taking photographs to the winners for next year, they pointed out that Lauren's picture met the criteria really well.
Apart from the good technical aspects of the photograph, the composition and interpretation of the category were excellent.
Last year's winner Shanelle Bowyer, handed over the Maureen Reynolds Shield to her successor Lauren, and James Bird handed her the enlargement of her photograph on canvas as a prize as well.
Keith gave the Tavyside Health Centre practice manager Dene Medland a similar enlargement on aluminium for display at the centre.
Barbara Greig, chairman of the TPA, thanked Dartmoor Photographic of Tavistock, the producer and sponsor of the prizes, for its generous support.
She said: 'These fantastic works of art from the young people make a super record of the event and provide a lovely cheerful picture for the patient's waiting area at the health centre.'
The TPA committee said the competition was well worth all the work involved and shows what great talent there was among the young people in the area.
In the four to seven age group, the overall winner was Paige Bowyer winning the Dartmoor category and the celebration category. Kieran McCloughlin won the sport and leisure category.
In the eight to 11 age group, the overall winner was Connie McCloughlin, who won the sport and leisure and family and pets categories.
Bradley Bowyer won the Dartmoor and celebration categories.
In the 12 to 16 age group, the overall winner was Lauren Dillon who won the celebration, sport and leisure and family and pets categories.
Shanelle Bowyer won the Dartmoor category.
