DARTMOOR'S cultural heritage is being celebrated in a series of events from September 11 to 14.

Dartmoor National Park is organising the days as part of the national Heritage Open Days 2008 event. Visits include prehistoric farmsteads and fields and medieval and post medieval complexes and buildings, including a Dartmoor longhouse.

On September 12 the longhouse at Higher Uppacott will have two-hour guided tours, one at 10am and the second at 2pm. On the same day, the 19th century farmstead Bullaton Farm will have tours at 11am and 2pm. The Higher Uppacott longhouse will have tours at the same time the following day, and there will also be a guided moorland walk to explore the remains of a medieval farming landscape on September 13, starting at 2pm at Challacombe.

Sunday, September 14 has more tours of the longhouse, plus a chance to explore Ditsworthy Warren Farm in the Plym Valley — once the largest rabbit warren in England, where more than 200 rabbits were farmed for meat and fur. The latter three hour walk starts at 2pm.

Places are limited on all the events so booking is essential on 01822 890414. Details of the programme are also available at http://www.heritageopendays.org.uk">www.heritageopendays.org.uk
