DARTMOOR National Park information and visitor centres are now open for the summer season, providing information on activities, walks and events available or taking place on the moors.
Postbridge Information Centre stocks a wide selection of maps and books and provides an ideal starting point for walkers to explore the north moor and Bellever area. The centre is also currently hosting the popular exhibition 'Climate Change — I can Change the Future.
The High Moorland Visitor Centre at Princetown is an all-weather facility in the heart of the moor, with interactive displays, films, static displays and audio programmes.
There is a theatre showing films about Dartmoor and a gallery with regularly changing exhibitions. Entry is free.
The national park authority's newest centre is at Haytor. Designed to have a low impact on the environment through minimising energy use and maximising the use of natural materials, the centre provides an orientation point to encourage exploration, enjoyment and understanding of Dartmoor's special qualities.
The information centres are open from 10am until 5pm during the summer season.
The new, free, Dartmoor Guide 2010-2011 is now available from Tourist Information Centres and the visitor centre at Princetown.
