NEW homes are being sought for former commercial hens at a re-homing day in Okehampton on Sunday, November 26.
The British Hen Welfare Trust is looking to re-home 400 ex-commercial hens saved from slaughter at collections held over the next fortnight.
The charity, based at Rose Ash near South Molton in North Devon, is asking people to reserve their hens on its website in advance of the day.
Gaynor Davies, the charity’s head of operations, said: ‘There is no better feeling than watching these girls flourish after they emerge from the commercial system.
‘They have a full bill of health and will soon become much-loved pets. A hen is such an interesting creature and you will be amazed how they all have their own personalities and funny little ways.
‘If you’ve ever considered giving some ex-bats a home my only advice would be to do it.
‘You won’t regret it!’
The British Hen Welfare Trust is well-known for its pioneering work in re-homing commercial laying hens and, through its nationwide team of more than 500 volunteers, has found homes for more than 600,000 hens since hatching in 2005.
Anyone interested in offering a new home to some down-on-their-cluck hens is urged to register on the charity’s website at www.bhwt.org.uk then call 01884 860084.
