IT is certainly a good time to get out and about in Tavistock after a shop mobility scheme has been launched.
TaviMOBILITY, a service for people in need of borrowing mobility aids to get about in Tavistock, was organised by the Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) and aims to give more people the chance to access the town's shops.
Tavistock and West Devon Borough Council mayors came together to launch the pilot scheme.
West Devon mayor, Cllr Alison Clish-Green, said: 'This is an excellent service being provided by dedicated people who hope to make shopping and getting around Tavistock easier for those who are disabled or have mobility problems. The scooters are battery operated so can be recharged. Anyone eligible can book the use of a scooter.
'Tavistock is fortunate to be a pilot for this scheme and I hope it will be well supported.'
Nick Eagles, on behalf of Tavistock Chamber of Commerce, said that they were thrilled that the pilot is taking place in Tavistock and support any development of shop mobility in the area.
TASS, based at the Anchorage Centre, was able to launch this pilot through funding from Devon County Council.
Electric scooters, power chairs, wheel chairs and walking aids will be available to borrow and can be booked through the Anchorage Centre.
Andy Lyle, manager of TASS said that the new service is all part of their aim through transport to get people out and about.
To book, call the Anchorage Centre on 01822 616958.
