Help to celebrate town?s historic event

READERS of last week?s Times will have seen that Tavistock Forward have recently been awarded £5,000 by Awards for All to help celebrate the bicentenary of the Tavistock canal. This represents only part of the monies we have raised to date ? with other contributions coming from the Tamar Valley Service and South West Water.

As part of the celebrations we are today launching a photographic competition - the details of which are set out elsewhere in this week?s Times.

We are also going to be holding a number of other events and activities for which, however, we really need help from people living in the Tavistock area ? this might include anything from cleaning up the canal, preparing schools materials, helping with the exhibition, to sorting out and managing the events on the bicentenary day ? August 29.

We would greatly appreciate any offers of help. We very much want the Tavistock community to be involved as much as possible in celebrating and discovering this remarkable piece of Georgian engineering.
