AS spring starts to bloom, don't miss out on your chance to win a home composter from West Devon Borough Council to help your garden grow.

To enter, head to the council's website to read about home composting, and follow the link to complete the quiz testing your knowledge on the subject.

To be entered into the prize draw, go to the website at http://www.westdevon.gov.uk/gardengrow">www.westdevon.gov.uk/gardengrow

All of the answers can be found in the text or via the home composting link. The draw will be held as part of National Compost Week in the first week of May.

The council is also offering 300 litre rotol composters while stocks last, in addition to the normal 220 litre composters.

The composters, and free how-to compost books, are available from the council offices at Kilworthy Park, Tavistock or Okehampton Customer Services.

To get the most from your garden waste, compost it with the right proportion of soft green material, fresh plant material, and dry harder materials (cardboard, dead leaves) then let composting work its magic.

The resulting compost will have a humus-like consistency which will add structure and nutrients to your soil.

The council only miss 25 bins for every 50,000 that they collect.

Recycling officers from the borough council will be attending outreach events around West Devon in May to answer any composting questions you may have, and deliver face-to-face advice direct to you.
