A NEWLY-formed community group in St Ann’s Chapel is supporting the resurrection of a football club with a ‘tidy up’ event on Sunday.

St Ann’s Chapel FC has recently been established to bring football back to the community of St Ann’s Chapel.

A number of residents have also set up a group ‘Your St Ann’s Chapel Community Group’ which has taken the football club under its wing as its current focus.

A spokesperson for the community group said: ‘We are pretty new and within the past six months or so have held public meetings and also a monthly committee meeting to discuss progress on any points raised and how to move things forward. Slowly we are starting to get things done that are important to our community.

‘The football club is working very hard to get established and known in the area. The team is being tracked by Cornwall FA to see how it fares. There is already demand for a second team and a junior team next season.’

On Sunday, October 23 there will be a charity football match and beforehand, at 10.30am, members of the community are being invited to help with a ‘tidy up’ around the football pitch. The group will be clearing brambles to allow advertising hoardings to be displayed, litter picking and tidying up the small, disused hut at the bottom of the pitch. It will also provide an opportunity for everyone to meet, chat and support the FC at the same time.
