VOLUNTEERS are needed to help provide road safety awareness courses for young cyclists at Devon schools.

Demand for the courses is high and volunteers are needed throughout the area.

The courses are available for pupils aged 10 and over and are designed to teach young cyclists road skills and raise their awareness of hazards and risks.

It is also hoped that becoming more competent will encourage more pupils to cycle to and from school — a benefit to the environment and to their health.

Free training to become an approved cycling instructor is offered by Devon County Council's Road Safety Team. The course in Tavistock will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm on Monday, May 10, but there will also be courses in Exeter, Barnstaple, Tiverton and Ivybridge.

Anyone who can spare time to help their local school should contact the Road Safety Help Desk on 01392 446124 or email [email protected]">[email protected] to reserve a place on a course or seek further information.
