A FORMER president and captain of Okehampton Golf Club will be remembered with a charity golf day next year.

John Spry died in September following a long battle with prostate cancer.

John's granddaughter Rachel Spry has helped to organise a memorial golf day on Friday, March 30 2012 at Okehampton Golf Club to support Hospiscare, a charity that provided John with support during his illness.

Rachel said: 'He was a club captain for two years, and club president for a year, and was a member at the golf club for a long time.

'It was a big part of his life and very important to him.

'He was diagnosed with prostate cancer several years ago, and battled it well.

'Hospiscare is a great charity that helped my grandfather out a lot during his illness, and we are keen to support them with this event.'

Rachel is currently looking for the main event and hole sponsors, and prizes for the competition, auction and raffle.

All donations, however big or small, will be gratefully received.
