OKEHAMPTON Town Council has pledged £1,000 to the Museum of Dartmoor Life to help with the match-funding for its expansion and refurbishment project, which has just received £261,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The council has vowed to continue supporting the museum with a grant year on year but the amount will alter depending on the authority's priorities.
Work on the museum, which staff and trustees hope will start a year from now, will include a new gallery and interactive displays, more exhibitions, a loop system for the deaf and a lift to give access to the disabled.
