HOMEOWNERS in West Devon hoping to fix a leaky roof, replace draughty windows or tackle other home repairs are being offered help from their council.
West Devon Borough Council has set up a partnership project with Wessex Home Improvement Loans to provide affordable loans to eligible homeowners to fund essential repairs, adaptations or improvements to their properties. (max. interest rate 4%, typical 4.1% APR).
Cllr Robert Oxborough, the borough council's community services chairman, said: 'The council is committed to ensuring private homeowners, who would otherwise be unable to afford essential works to their homes, have options available to them.
'We work closely with Wessex Home Improvement Loans as they are a not-for-private-profit organisation who help provide people with a home that is safe, warm and suitable for their needs.'
Mel Richards, of Wessex Home Improvement Loans, said: 'People may not think to call the council if they are struggling to fund essential repairs, adaptations or improvements to their homes.
'It can also be scary borrowing money, however, our loans are affordable with no hidden charges or early repayment penalties.'
