POLICE are warning people to be vigilant after a number of thefts of granite structures and sculptures in West Devon.
Officers have reported that over the last two or three weeks at least four properties in the area have had expensive and historical items stolen.
PC Chris Verco said the items included granite balls and falcons which were placed on top of pillars and formed part of the property entrances.
'People are getting very upset because these sculptures are part of the heritage of the properties,' he said.
'I would suggest that where at all possible people should secure these items to the pillars by putting a metal rod inside or cementing them in some way.'
He said that with such heavy sculptures there would be more than one offender and some sort of vehicle would have been used in the crime.
