TAVISTOCK men's hockey club never seem to play at their best in Cornwall and they made heavy weather of beating lowly Newquay.
Having beaten Newquay by 11 goals in the first meeting and dominating league leaders Penzance the week prior, it was probably an over-confident Tavistock that expected to cruise to victory.
But with driving rain making conditions difficult along with some unique umpiring decisions the visitors struggled to settle into their usual pattern of play.
After early pressure, Edwards found the net with a good strike from the top of the D which should have settled the Tavistock side.
But Newquay were playing a game of damage limitation, and with nearly the entire side in their own 25 breaking down the Newquay defence proved to be a frustrating business.
Tavistock eventually managed to increase the tempo and show some urgency.
This began creating opportunities to increase the score by numerous short corners but none were capitalised on.
