THE hunt is on for teams to take part in a tug of war competition taking place at Buckland Monachorum June Fair this weekend.

The fair takes place in the grounds of St Andrew's School, and the tug of war forms a central part of the event.

Stephen Fryer, chairman of the fair committee, said: 'The end of the football and rugby seasons seems to be causing a problem, with many committees and players taking a breather!

'Ideally, we need a minimum of four men's and four ladies' teams, but we are a bit short of this at the moment, to say the least!'

In addition to the tug of war, there will be archery and craft displays, the chance to see the view from the top of the church tower, pony and miniature steam train rides, a fun run and cross country run, art exhibition and stalls.

Music will be provided by Tavistock Stannary Band and Saxmania, and local jazz group Souled Out will be playing during the evening.

Entrance to the fair, which begins at 1pm on Saturday June 10, costs just 50p — there is no charge to enter the tug of war competition.

Anyone who would like to enter a team should contact Stephen Fryer on 01822 855336.
