A MERRIVALE sportswoman won a national tetrathlon at the weekend, as part of a South West team victory.
Heather Fell, 20, took part in the UK Pony Club regional competition in North Yorkshire, and by taking individual first place helped the South West team, which included Tamsin Barrington from Holsworthy, to beat their nearest rivals, Central England, by more than 450 points.
Heather took first place in the event, which includes swimming, shooting, a cross-country horse ride and 1,500-metre run, by coming first in the swim with ten lengths and seven metres in three minutes and a personal best of five minutes and 14 seconds##,###################################################################################################################### in the 1500m.
She will be competing as an individual at the national championship this weekend in defence of her title, at Moreton Morrell in Warwickshire. This is a more open competition and sees a considerably higher number of entrants.
Heather also competes in modern pentathlon and trains at the centre of excellence in Bath, alongside Olympic hopeful and fellow Tavistokian Kate Allenby, and will hear today (Thursday) if she has been selected to go to the junior world championships in Athens this September.
