North Tawton 5
Marjons 10
IN this league encounter both sides played enterprising rugby and it was left to the defences to see who would crack first.
With some crunching tackles it was going to be a mistake that would let the first score in and so it proved to be.
A North Tawton chip over the top saw the Marjons winger fumble the ball and a ruck was set up.
From the ensuing melee wing forward Kevin Avery, having a splendid game, plunged over for a try on the stroke of half-time.
In the second half, North Tawton forwards set up some good chances and were rewarded with several scrums in the home side's line but were unable to turn the pressure into points.
The Marjons' full back ran half the length of the pitch to score a converted try under the posts.
Despite further efforts, North Tawton were unable to regain the lead.
Marjons got a penalty in the dying minutes to put the game out of reach.
A great improvement on recent North Tawton performances, that will give them great heart for their future league meetings.
North Tawton Seconds 3
Torrington Seconds 38
NORTH Tawton again took the field with a depleted and understrength side, both sides playing with 13 men.
This should have led to an open attacking game but the match was lacklustre.
Torrington, having much the better of the game, managed to put together some good phases and it was left to North Tawton to feed off the scraps.
The home side's only score came from the boot of captain Joe Fewings from a first half penalty.
