PEOPLE in West Devon are being offered support to get fit and healthy this summer.

Devon Primary Care Trust (PCT) has organised a healthy lifestyle roadshow, which will tour local communities in the area.

The roadshow will be held at six villages in the borough — Hatherleigh, Lifton, Exbourne, Bere Alston, Belstone and Chagford.

Ali Sizmur, health trainer for Devon PCT, said health professionals would be at the roadshow to offer support for people who wish to become more active or want to eat a healthier diet. There will be fruit tasting sessions as well as a healthy lifestyle quiz, with the chance of winning a hamper of fruit and veg, the produce for the roadshow being donated by Lidl.

Ali said: 'People can get advice on reducing alcohol consumption and we will signpost people to stop smoking services.

'We already run free health trainer clinics in the West Devon area and we hope the roadshow will encourage more people to take the first step to leading a healthier lifestyle — by signing up to a clinic. The clinics are run by a team of health trainers and are open to people over 16.

Ali said the PCT ran one-to-one clinics across Devon which helped people to develop a personal health plan, offering up to eight weeks of support and advice to help them achieve their goals.
