LOCAL transport is to go under the spotlight in Devon in the coming months, when the county council invites the public to air their views on on the subject, following the draft publication of ?Devon on the Move?, the county?s local transport plan.

The council must submit its five year plan, covering 2006 to 2011, by July next year and as part of the consultation process, people are being asked to complete an on-line questionnaire regarding their views on the plan?s aims and objectives.

County Cllr David Morrish, executive member for the environment, said: ?We have made good progress with implementing our current Devon Local Transport Plan and now we are looking ahead to the next five years.

?It is important that the people of Devon share with us their views on issues such as traffic congestion, air quality, road safety and public transport as these developments will affect us all in one way or another.

?There will continue to be pressures on budgets and limits to what can be achieved so these views will help form our priorities for the future so we can target limited resources as efficiently as possible.?

The plan, which will shape the future of travel and transport across Devon, will also take into account the views of organisations such as Help the aged, the Freight Transport Agency and Flybe, which have branches in the region.

Initial preparations have already seen the Countryside Agency, Stagecoach, the Highways Agency and the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary consulted.

Anyone wishing to complete the on-line questionnaire can find it at http://www.devon.gov.uk">www.devon.gov.uk

The county council will be issuing a more detailed document on all aspects of the new local transport plan later this year.
