ONE of Devon County Council's proposed rural transport changes is the number 55 bus serving the Yelverton/Buckland Monachorum/Milton Combe area. Under the proposed changes we would lose regular links with Yelverton and would have to spend between three and four hours away from the village, either morning or afternoon. The proposal is to provide a regular daily bus service from our villages into Tavistock, but a reasonable service to and from Yelverton would enable us to connect with any number of buses to get to Tavistock and back. In my view it would be better to stop the daily service to Tavistock and maintain a more convenient regular service to and from Yelverton. This will affect people visiting the doctor/chemist or shopping and certainly will cause serious problems for people who travel to and from work/college from these villages. Going to Tavistock is an option, getting to and from Yelverton is a necessity. There is a public consultation which closes on April 20, so I would urge anyone affected to make their feelings known to Devon County Council while they can. Carol Harwood Buckland Monachorum
