ONCE again, the controversial issue of giant turbines raises its head in West Devon. Developers have applied for permission to erect a 54 metre to tip wind turbine at Cardwell Farm, Milton Abbot. application number 00484/2015. Objections must be in to WDBC by June 12. It will be just under 3 kilometres from Dartmoor National Park, intrude upon National Monuments and Listed Buildings, and be visible for miles. The residents of the tiny hamlet of Longcross are concerned that the turbine will be noisy, visually intrusive and decrease the value of their homes, all for a risible amount of electricity and C02 saving. They feel that this application is nothing more than an effort to milk the generous subsidies available for turbines, and want to stop it. There will be a public meeting of Milton Abbot Parish Council to discuss this proposal at Milton Abbot Village Hall on June 10 at 7.30pm. Longcross is a tiny community which feels oppressed by the prospect of a giant industrial machine being plonked on their doorstep to bring profit to developers who do not even live in the locality. Please support them by coming to the meeting. Make local democracy work! Chris Burchell For and on behalf of LAG Longcross Action Group.
