THE proposed closure of Wardhayes Care Home, the closure of the Poppy Day Centre and the reduction in day care provided by Puzzle Tree are the main talking points for the next meeting of the Okehampton branch of Devon Senior Voice. A spokesperson for the branch said: 'The first part of the meeting will be discussing the funding cuts to Devon County Council's care home and day services for older people and those with learning disabilities. 'It is important that your views on Wardhayes, the Poppy Centre and the Puzzle Tree Organisation and others are heard. All interested people are welcome. 'We will also be discussing future plans for Okehampton Senior Voice and how we can work better with other organisations.' The meeting of the Okehampton branch will take place on Tuesday, June 10 at 10am with refreshments at the Glen Community Room. Devon Senior Voice will be one of many organisations taking part in a dementia awareness day in the Charter Hall on Friday, July 11. The event, run in partnership with Okehampton College, Okehampton Town Council, Okehampton Rotary and other organisations, will be the launch of Okehampton and the surrounding areas becoming 'dementia friendly'.
