TWO members of staff from Hatherleigh Nursing Home have jumped from an aeroplane at 15,000 feet to help raise money to find a cure for Alzheimer’s.

Jessica Caine and Luke Barnett, who work in the marketing department at the care home, raised £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society with their feat.

They chose the charity because 65% of those cared for at the home live with dementia, and Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia among older adults.

They took to the sky on Sunday, August 5 at Dunkeswell Airfield near Honiton and both of them jumped attached to an instructor.

Jessica had parachuted once before, but it was Luke’s first jump.

Prior to taking off, he admitted to being terrified of heights. He went ahead and jumped anyway.

‘It was all over so quickly, I didn’t have time to be scared,’ he said afterwards.

The pair raised enough money to pay for two years’ worth of clinical trial drugs to search for an effective treatment for vascular dementia.
