Devon Intermediate Cup Bere Alston Reserves 4 Mary Tavy 3 THE game started at a furious pace with Bere applying the first of the early pressure. Will Pike fired in a low cross which narrowly escaped Brad Harvey?s touch within the first few minutes. Mary Tavy forced Bere to work hard to protect their goal and were themselves rewarded with a well-executed goal. Bere?s reply was better than they could have imagined as striker Charlie Hone calmly fired the equaliser home. Not wanting to rest there, Bere?s left-winger Tom Liddicotte crafted the second to push Bere into the lead. Mary Tavy rounded the first half off levelling the score 2 all. The second started with Mary Tavy maintaining possession. This paid off and they regained the lead. Bere continually counter-attacked, which caused the Mary Tavy defence a real headache. Bere were again rewarded and substute Kyle Robinson sneaked through the Mary Tavy back line firing home a goal that bought Bere back on level ground. With 20 minutes to go the game was poised for a thrilling end. Bere?s winner came with 15 minutes to go. Substitute Tony Martin sent the ball forward along the left hand side, Liddicotte chased and collected and beat his marker all in one move. Passing to Hone who beat his marker and shoot, the ball nestled sweetly in the corner. As the final whistle was blown Bere Alston Reserves had managed a feat that their first team counter parts could not manage last season, a win over Mary Tavy, and in doing so completed a hat trick of wins this season and maintain their 100% record. Bere Alston Reserves 2 Lewdown 1 BERE Alston ground out another victory, giving them a 100% record denying local rivals Lewdown the chance of moving up the table. Lewdown attacked hard and weren?t willing to let the atrocious weather deter them. Bere soaked up all the early pressure patiently waiting for their opener. This came from simple play between Bere?s midfield and their back line, allowing Will Pike the time to receive the ball from John O?Hare and take the goal keeper on one on one. Pike kept a cool head and finished off in style. Lewdown was revived in the second half and claimed an equaliser. Bere seemed slightly rattled at this point, but settled again well and continued to create the openings they had in the first half. In the closing stages Bere created a well-worked manoeuvre that saw Charlie Hone chopped down inside the Lewdown penalty area. Kyle Robinson put the spot kick away confidently. Lewdown may have felt hard done by and a draw may have been a fairer result for all their efforts. Unfortunately they ran out of time to capture another equaliser, and Bere collected the 3 points they had worked so hard for.
