Okehampton Ladies . .3

THIS fixture was important to the Okehampton ladies' promotion prospects, as Exeter University are third in the league, while Okehampton lie second.

Okehampton started poorly and were punished for their lack of concentration by two early goals from the opposition. The ladies began to compose themselves and pushed for a goal, attempts coming from Michelle Vaughan and the midfield. Despite this spell of better play Okehampton let the opposition put another goal past them.

After a well timed through ball from Kate Shannon, Karen Fuell smashed the ball past the opponents' keeper to pull one back before half-time.

Inspired by this goal Okehampton began to pay football in the second half. Shots at goal began to rattle the away team's composure and Okehampton took advantage and kept the pressure up throughout this half.

The ladies' efforts were rewarded when Jessica Burdus put a ball across the box for Karen Fuell to blast at goal, Exeter University's keeper attempted a save, but fortunately for the home team the ball crossed the line.

Five minutes before the final whistle Okehampton were awarded a free kick. Hayley Vincent stepped up and lofted the ball towards Karen Fuell, who found the back of the net for the third time.

Okehampton Ladies should all be pleased with themselves for turning the game around and getting that vital point.

Player of the match was Karen Fuell, who is now top goal scorer after Sunday's hat-trick.
