A TEAM from Tamar Valley Hash House Harriers have been gearing up for a marathon charity cycle ride from Land's End to John O'Groats.

Intrepid cyclists Steve and Dawn Statham, Richard and Tracy Windemer and Chris Lloyd on Wednesday set out to cycle 1,000 miles from one end of Britain to the other in 15 days to raise money for St Luke's Hospice, Plymouth.

Steve Statham, the deputy chief executive at St Luke's Hospice, said: 'As well as the personal challenge of completing the ride we also wanted to support the work of St Luke's by raising much needed funds so the hospice can continue to provide specialist palliative care to patients facing incurable life-threatening conditions.

We have each seen first hand how St Luke's have supported and cared for fellow runners and their families so they can enjoy the precious time available.

The five are hoping to raise at least £2,500 for the deserving charity. Any support or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. To make a donation, visit http://www.justgiving.com">www.justgiving.com
