THERE must be loads of people just like me in Okehampton that moan about the price of their gas and water bills. Electricity doesn't get any cheaper either. Where's all this leading to, I hear you ask?

Well, if you walk down Fatherford and onto the moor you will find a very fast moving river. In fact we have two rivers running through our town. Now call me silly, or off my head, but surely there's enough power from these rivers to generate a power plant to feed our town with electricity, or quite a bit of it? I know it costs money to build such a plant, but you only have to build it once and then maintain it.

While I think of it, there is a water-wheel going round most of the time in Mill Road. I wonder if the owners make use of it and get free power? Food for thought from someone who hates paying high utility bills.
