Devon and Exeter senior three South Zeal Utd 4 Winkleigh 3 WINKLEIGH took the lead after 15 minutes when a harmless through ball evaded the Zeal defence and allowed a Winkleigh striker to round the stranded goalkeeper Adam Cann to slide the ball into an empty net. Harley Cann was always a problem for the visitors and Zeal deservedly equalised when Scott Hooper turned in a Harley Cann cross after Harley had outpaced two defenders. Zeal took the lead on the half hour when a shot from Harley was only parried by the Winkleigh keeper and Redd Cann was on hand to put Zeal a goal up from close range. Although 2-1 up at half time Zeal had to defend well and several timely challenges from Tom Reilly and a couple of good saves by Adam Cann ensured that Zeal started the second half a goal to the good. Winkleigh started the better in the second half but Zeal extended their lead when Tim Sanderson put Scott Hooper through and he finished well from 10 yards. Winkleigh then reduced the deficit from a free kick, only for Zeal to go 4-2 up when Darren Gilbert won the ball in mid-field and started the attack that put Harley Cann through and he finished well from an acute angle. It now seemed that Zeal would go on to win easily but a mix up in the home sides' defence allowed the visitors back in the game. However, Zeal finished strongly and never allowed Winkleigh another chance and could have increased their lead when Harley Cann hit the post from 10 yards, the rebound falling straight into the arms of the keeper. l South Zeal United are away to Morchard Bishop on April 26, kick-off 3pm.
