Dutchy Div 1 Lamerton 3 St Columb Minor 2 LAMERTON played host to St Columb Minor on a wet and greasy pitch after a heavy downfall just before kick off. A depleted and under-strength Lamerton side, due to injury and suspension, struggled to gel together and St Columb took advantage of this creating the better chances but unable to finish. Lamerton took the lead against the run of play through Steve Wickett with a well-taken goal. After a careless challenge St Columb should have pulled one back from the penalty spot but for an excellent save from keeper Pete Daniel in the Lamerton goal. Minutes after when Lamerton defenders were caught napping and from a quick free kick St Columb equalized. Minutes later Lamerton fell behind through a mix-up between defenders in the 18 yard box as the St Columb striker fired past the unsighted Daniel in the home goal. The second half saw Lamerton begin to dominate. Steve Gibbings battling hard, Dale Mullins winning everything, James Healy a midfield dynamo; the defence had tightned and with Pete Daniel sweeping up behind the back four the Lamerton attack had commenced. Lee Wickett equalized with a well-taken strike in the bottom right hand corner. Now Lamerton were after all 3 points. Chances were created and ten minutes from time the hard work paid off with Steve Gibbings heading his goal after a good Lamerton move. In the end it was a well contested battle between the two clubs with Lamerton earning all the points to get their season moving onwards and upwards. This Saturday away to Dobwalls 2.30pm kick off.
