Southgate 0 Tavistock Town 3 THE result went some way to healing the wounds from the past two weeks for Tavistock. In his first game in goal Davies marshalled his defence extremely well and never looked likely to concede a goal apart from two long range shots which hit the bar. The keeper?s job was made much easier thanks to the back four of Case, Court, Lockley and Waring backed up by some excellent covering by Hoar and Ayres in midfield. This platform allowed wingers Doidge and Alford to send in some excellent crosses for Pridham and Robbins, who duly pressurised the Southgate goal with a number of shots and headers. These crosses worked well for the wingers who both profited from each other?s work, Alford scoring the first goal and Doidge adding a second before half time. In the second half, Tavistock were against the slope and initially still kept the home side at bay for much of the game. Southgate did have ten minutes of possession which allowed them to launch some attacks but were unable to convert. Tavistock then upped their workrate and with subs Thompson, Cole and Blatchford replacing some tired legs more chances were to come. With five minutes to go Pridham was let loose on the Southgate goal and he slid the ball under the advancing keeper.
