Okehampton Columbines...................1 Plymouth University......................4 THE mixture of players in this league hockey match meant that several had to play out of their usual position. It gave less experienced but developing talent such as Abby Colton and Rachel Hammet the chance to practise league hockey. The well organised team play of the University side took them to three-nil despite Okehampton?s hard work. Just before half time a good cross from captain Jo Stephens was driven towards goal by centre forward Elaine Morgan to Alex Collins at left wing who sent a deceptively gentle ball which wrong-footed the goalie to score. With the score 3:1 at half time there was a reorganisation of the team and in the second half the strong line of backs, Sandy Corkill, Elaine Morgan and Judith Grant, helped Okehampton to control the field well. A painful strike onto Sandy?s foot contributed to a goal being scored as players were distracted. A more balanced second half led to the game finishing 4:1. Okehampton are away again this week when they play Mannamead 2nds.
