Tavistock 15 Kingsbridge 14 TAVISTOCK girls took all the credit from a hard fought victory over Kingsbridge last Sunday. The Kingsbridge girls came with lots of energy and a determination to win. By the end of the game several Kingsbridge players were lucky to still be on the field after infringements including a series of high tackles. However, the Tavistock girls would not lower themselves to these tactics and played the much better rugby throughout the game. They opened the scoring with a superb play that left the corner of the Kingsbridge line open for the try to be run in. Unfortunately, the conversion was not successful ? as with the subsequent Tavistock attempts. Ten minutes later Kingsbridge ? on a rare visit into the Tavistock twenty-two managed to scramble a try through the stalwart Tavistock defence and this was converted. Kingsbridge took an underserved lead. So Tavistock?s response was to take the game straight back to the opposition and score from the resulting pressure. The home team spent most of the second half encamped in the opposition?s half but it was only through a chip and chase that they managed to score yet another try. At this point Kingsbridge started to play some decent rugby and fought back nobly. Tavistock?s defence held firm even under intense pressure. Kingsbridge did manage to score right at the end but by this time both teams were showing signs of fatigue and it was clear that Kingsbridge?s lucky last minute score was not going to change the result of the game even though it brought them to only one point of the winning Tavistock side.
