Duchy Premier St Merryn 3 Lamerton 6 AFTER Lamerton F C finished this fixture last season with effectively nine men, manager Pete Alford took no chances by summoning a stupendous eighteen players for the long haul trip. Ironically, ten men would probably have been enough to see off what turned out to be, a very weak St Merryn side. Lamerton went 2-0 up and cruising inside half an hour through Pete Broomfield and James Healy. Lamerton?s defending was abysmal however and St Merryn?s hoof ball tactics into the box via a strong wind, amazingly, put them 3-2 up. All three goals accounted by a comedy of errors, with Merryn?s Lee Walker scoring two of them. The equaliser was a joint blunder by Lamerton?s Will Cann and Pete Daniel, gifting Steve Rudd from two yards. The game?s standard was exemplified with still five minutes of the first half remaining. Lamerton went straight up the pitch via Kev Swift to make it 3-3 and Zac Beesley set up Healy who was brought down when clean through; Broomfield making it 4-3 from the spot. Good work by Ben Rushall three minutes after the break saw Beesley grab a goal and after Merryn netted via a hand, which was disallowed by attentive linesman Paul Gibbings, Lamerton finally put the game to bed. Kev Swift majestically waltzed through three St Merryn players and unselfishly laid up Broomfield for his hat-trick. It was a difficult pitch in windy conditions, which saw Lamerton happy just to take the three points. This week: home to Pensilva 2.30pm KO.
