THE photograph in your 'Those were the days' feature (February 21) which showed Tavistock Football Club taken in 1948/49 before they played Halls Engineers brought back pleasant memories for me also, as
I can recall the great Bere Alston football eleven of the same period when they too entertained Halls Engineers at the Recreation Field, Bere Alston.
I'm not sure whether this was a P&D league game or a cup match but I recall Bere Alston winning the encounter by a short margin with their prolific goalscorer Cyril Rich among the scorers.
This star-studded Bere Alston eleven also entertained in cup and league games other very talented sides of the period, such as Dartmouth Utd, Tamerton, Totnes Utd, Newton Spurs and R N Barracks. Happy days!
