MEMBERS of St Eustachius' Church gathered in Bedford Square in Tavistock on Saturday for a Gift Day in celebration of the vicar's birthday.

The first of its kind held by Tavistock Parish Church, the church council invited gifts for the church for the occasion of the Rev Michael Brierley's 40th birthday.

Members of the friends stood in the square between 9am and 4.30pm receiving donations which totalled around £2,000.

Mr Brierley said: 'We were overwhelmed by people's kindness and really grateful for all the donations. With Gift Aid added, the total is closer to £2,500.'
