TAVISTOCK Golf Club junior Will Stenhouse, aged 13, became the youngest player to win the prestigious Hampshire Cup.
The cup, presented to the Club in 1928 by the Second Battalion of the Hampshire Regiment, is awarded to the winner of an annual knockout competition.
Will played excellent golf in all his matches and in the final beat Rob Lovell 5 and 4. In the Alfa Romeo medal Will also won division two with a nett 66, second was Dick Stead nett 68 with Andy Cunningham third with nett 70. Chris Gawman headed division one with a nett 65; second was David Price, nett 69, and third with nett 70 was Mike Sutcliffe.
In the 3BBB team medal Alan Gawman's team had 130 nett; second Ian Cooper's team with nett 134 and, both with 135 nett, the teams of Shaun Kiely and Tony Ingram. Playing in the Presidents Trophy for the first time, Tavistock ladies beat Teign Valley 41/2 to 21/2. Winning the qualifying round of the Coronation Foursomes with 32pts were Elaine Cooper and Norma Thewlis.
The EWGA medal was played in conjunction with the Marilyn Allen Trophy for past lady captains. The winner was Marilyn Allen, the runner-up was Norma Thewlis.
In the EWGA medal first was Patty Congo nett 71, second was Marilyn Allen nett 73 with Norma Thewlis and Lyn Alderman both on nett 74.
