AN important meeting is to be held in Okehampton's Charter Hall next week to discuss the future of one of the most diverse parishes in West Devon. Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council is developing a 'Parish Plan' with the help of the Community Council of Devon. The hamlets include Stockleigh, Brightley, Southcott and Meldon. In a statement, the hamlets parish council said: 'This is one of the most diverse parishes in West Devon, encompassing both industrial estates and modern housing developments as well as rural agricultural areas and part of Dartmoor. 'If you live within the parish, or have an interest in it, this is your chance to have your say about the future development of the area. 'Help us face the challenges of maintaining a thriving community without spoiling the wonderful beauty of the area.' The first Parish Plan meeting is being held on Wednesday, July 2 at 7.30pm in Okehampton's Charter Hall. The hamlets parish council hopes that many representatives of groups in and around the parish will attend, along with parishioners themselves. A steering committee will be formed at the meeting to prepare a questionnaire to be distributed to parish households.
