OKEHAMPTON Hamlets Parish Council has declared its presence at the centenary Okehampton and District Agricultural Show a great success. The council was joined in its marquee by a number of organisations from the area. Dartmoor Rescue Group demonstrated some of the equipment they use. Okehampton Adventure Centre (the Youth Hostel) provided youngsters with the challenge of their climbing wall. Brookkite, based at Brightley Mill, introduced a colourful display of the various kites they manufacture. Also dropping in were the Skatewarehouse for those ?boarders? who were looking to jazz up their equipment. ODAT (Okehampton against Wind Turbines) were out in force warning of the possible effect such projects could have on the local landscape and encouraging visitors to think about alternative forms of renewable energy. The parish council had a table displaying maps and photographs showing the size of the area it administers, and some of the projects with which it is involved. The council is proud of the creation of Quarry Park which abuts the Bluebell Woods at Meldon, which offers ideal walks amid beautiful countryside with a plethora of flora and fauna. There was also the challenge of ?Guess what it is??, featuring a collection of implements lent by chairman Derek Webber. The competition was won by Mrs Mel Quick of East Bowerlands who was awarded a bottle of whisky.
