VOLUNTEERS at Tavistock Area Support Services have been praised as the ?unsung heroes? of the town. For many charities, if it was not for the volunteers, the services they provide would not happen ? and TASS is no exception. With more than 140 volunteers, each one is an integral part of the team delivering valuable services for those over 55 living within Tavistock and the surrounding area. Each week volunteers deliver a wide range of activities at TASS?s base at The Anchorage Centre and also in outlying local villages through its outreach centres ? providing light lunches, activities, information, advice and transport. Andy Lyle, TASS?s general manager, said: ?Volunteers make a huge difference to so many, giving of their time freely to support others within our community, and we continue to be thankful to them in all they do in bringing hope to those they help for a brighter tomorrow. ?If it were not for volunteers The Anchorage Centre could not open its doors, the outreach centres would not be able to provide all they do, people would not receive information, advice and help with their form-filling, nor would we be able to deliver the varied transport support. ?Our volunteers are the unsung heroes of all we do because without them there would not be Tavistock Area Support Services and we do appreciate all they do.?
