Duchy Premier
Gunnislake 2
Lamerton 2
The last three weekends have brought contrasting fortunes for Gunnislake's Duchy premier team. In the first of these weeks they shared the points in an even encounter with local rivals Lamerton.
In each half Gunnislake took the lead and Lamerton came back to level matters. Gunnis-lake's goals came from the Kelly brothers, Stef and Jarryd, each time the scorer having been set up by his sibling.
Edgcumbe 2
Gunnislake 0
Next up was inform Edgcumbe. Gunnislake went there full of confidence having made a decent start to the campaign also. And, Gunnislake arguably produced their best performance yet this season but, ironically, failed to score for the first time this season and finished the losing team.
Edgcumbe took full advantage of a fortunate break to score on 10 minutes although the 20 yard finish was clinical. Midway through the half the hosts, having seen Gunnislake miss a couple of good chances, were awarded a penalty that sometimes is given but more often is not and they converted to double their lead.
Gunnislake often carried the greater threat but could not find a way through a well organised Edgcumbe.
While a disappointing result for Gunnislake, the main disappoint-ment was that central defender Nathan May suffered a double break to his right leg that left him in terrible pain and resulted in him needing to be airlifted to Derriford hospital. All at Gunnislake football club wish Nathan a speedy and full recovery.
Cornwall Junior Cup
Gunnislake 6
Polperro 0
ON Saturday Gunnislake defeated Polperro in the first round of the Cornwall Junior Cup. It always showed that the hosts were a couple of divisions higher than their visitors although Polperro did show well at times and certainly played the game in the right way.
Gunnislake scored three goals in each half. Darren Benfield grabbed his second hat-trick of the season with the other goals coming from Jarryd Kelly, Stuart Wakenshaw and Stef Kelly.
